A custom web application can fail while every screen still looks polished. The usual cause is a weak model of the underlying work: permissions are added late, status changes have no clear owner, or the data model fights the reporting the business needs.
I start with the workflow. Who is doing what? Which state changes matter? What must be auditable? Once those answers are clear, the interface and backend have something solid to follow. That is especially important for admin products, multi-role platforms, booking systems, and software that replaces spreadsheets.
My work spans the product surface rather than stopping at a set of screens. I can build the React or Next.js front end, connect it to an existing API, or take responsibility for the Node.js service and database as well. When a project includes another specialist, I document the boundaries and keep integration work visible.
The stack is chosen around the product. Next.js is useful when the application and public website live together. A separate React app can be a better fit for an operations-heavy dashboard. PostgreSQL works well for strongly related business records, while MongoDB or Convex can make sense for different access patterns. I will explain the choice in ordinary language before it becomes expensive to change.
